Namthing Pokhori, The home of Salamanders

The beautiful creature salamanders are at the verge of extincting today. It is found no where in India except in some places in Darjeeling. Namthing is one such place that is the home of this beautiful creature.

Namthing is the name of a pond in Shelpu Sittong about 1hr drive from Kurseong town. This lonely place is also habitat of beautiful birds, butterflies and some wild animals.

One can feel the touch of the nature while roaming around Namthing lake. The surrounding areas of the lake are covered with pine trees that adds beauty to the lake. The crocking of the frogs chirping of the birds and the sounds of other numerous insects are amazing and and one can feel the real nature in this sophisticated world. Visiting this place takes you away from the modern world away from hussel and bussel of the city life and can get perfect relaxation.

20 mins drive downhill takes you to a small Shelpu Bazaar where one can find a well furnished lodge or even a home stay where you can spend the night for experiencing wild life tour the other day.
